Title - Packaging and Transportation Strategy in Global Sourcing anand Advertisement

Introduction

One of the challenging practical areas of international logistics are packaging and transportation of goods for international shipments.
Packaging is responsibility of exporter. Importance of Packaging is it protects our products, allows us to transport them safely, and ultimately saves far more energy than it consumes. At the same time it can end up as waste, particularly in places where technology and infrastructure are not present to enable the recycling and recovery of the disposed packaging. We share a responsibility with our customers and our consumers to prevent packaging from ending up either in landfill or blighting the landscape as litter.
Packaging serves many purposes. It protects products, keeping them safe from contamination. It allows us to display vital information about how to use and dispose of goods safely – a legal requirement for some products – and to communicate product benefits in a way that is appealing to our consumers. Packaging also provides functionality benefits, for example making it easy to dispense a product or to reseal it after use to ensure that the product is protected over its entire shelf-life. Packaging also offers convenience and portion control to match the needs of different consumers. In Europe, demographic changes such as more single-person households mean there is growing demand for smaller portions. In developing and emerging countries, many products across our foods and home and personal care portfolio such as margarines and shampoos are sold in single-use sachets to make them more accessible and affordable for consumers on low incomes. Good packaging design leads to less product waste during transportation and helps consumers use products efficiently.
The World Packaging Organizations (WPO) slogan, “Better Quality of Life through Better
Packaging”, sumps up the important place that packaging occupies in a modern economy. To ensure that public appreciation of this role and the policy-makers’ support to the industry are not diluted, attention should be paid to basic issues like collection, segregation and reuse of synthetic packaging material and observation of regulatory requirements.
Transport and distribution are key considerations when planning for international trade. Choosing the right mode of transport is essential to ensure your import or export operation is efficient and cost-effective.
The key players involved in any transportation that take place within supply chare are the shipper and the carrier. Vehicle-related cost, fixed operating cost, trip related cost, quality related cost and overhead cost are factors affecting carrier decision. Factor affecting the shipper decision are Transportation cost, Inventory cost, facility cost, processing cost and service level cost.
The basis mode of transportation are Air, Water , Rail, Truck, Package carriers, Pipe line and Inter-modal. Most international shipments are travel on more than one mode from their origin to destination.  Product characteristic like size and weight restrictions, safety, fragility, temperature and cost per unit which affect the transport selection decision.
Considering for selecting carrier Service Company are their current performance, acceptance and responsibility, flexibility, comprehensive service offers, information system, financial stability and compatibility.
