1. Introduction

Logistics is the management of the flow of goods, information, and other resources, including energy and people, between a point of origin and the point of consumption to meet the requirements of consumers. It involves the incorporation of information, transportation, inventory, warehousing, material-handling, packaging, and security. Logistics is a way of the supply chain that adds the value of time and place utility. Transport logistics is the integration of transport with the management of the flow of goods (De Castro, 1996). 

1.1 Overview and background of business

I am going to set up my road freight transport business named Rising Star Transport Services which is a private transport business in a town named Nellore located in the state known as Andhra Pradesh in India. I want to maintain 5-7 trucks. As this place is in between Ongole and Chittoor, I want to transport to both these cities. I want to maintain 3 trucks to Ongole and 4 trucks to Chittoor city. I want to hire staff of 8-10 people. As I need 6 drivers to drive my vehicles. I want to hire 2 mechanics as part time to repair my vehicles and 2 people in my front office to manage my office.  My companies USP will be “Make the boundaries small”. Our company’s motto will be “Quick and Safe Deliver”. Road freight transport, or trucking, is essential to modern economies, occupying a unique socioeconomic position linking supply to demand and linking many industrial sectors. Road freight is most appropriate for the movement of goods between many origins and many destinations. Road freight takes up the vast majority of freight movements.

The scope of the work for the company is as follows:

Ø  To transport the freight to different destinations.

Ø  Maintaining the trucks efficiently.

Ø  Providing a good customer service.

1.2 Objective and purpose of the research

The main purpose of this research is to find out the factors and checking the feasibility of starting up a freight transport business named as Rising Star Transport Business in a town named Nellore in Andhra Pradesh, state of India. The objective of the research is also to find out the:   

Ø  Describe current freight movements in, out and through the region as accurately as possible.

Ø  Identify the issues and limitations of freight movement in, out and through the region?

Ø  What is the trends and future of the road freight transport industry?

Ø  What is the effect of the economic growth on road freight transport industry?

Ø  What is the demand and growth of the road freight transport industry?
