CASE: 1       GEORGE DAVID
1.                  What makes George David such a highly regarded manager?
As a CEO of United Technologies Corporation (UTC), George David has created the ambience of company with decentralization decision making by creating several business partitions. David was very helpful, who does lot of things for his employees.
2.                  How does David get things done through people?
David gets things done through people with the help of decentralization method and cutting the range of head offices into various divisions. David controlled and managed each and every segment, such as financial, accounting, productivity and many more with a trustworthy liaison with their employees; in the same time employees dedicatedly prove themselves with their total effort and skill in counter.
3.                  What evidence can you see of David’s planning and strategizing, organizing, controlling, leading, and developing?
The Achieving Competitive Excellence (ACE) which rolled-out across UTC to improve product quality and productivity, proved the implementation of planning and strategy methods by David. The decentralization system and directing the accounting staff to prepare a new financial reporting system with appropriate and good information about various divisions, say how David was a good organizer too. The persistence of tremendous ethical principles with low environmental collision and protection for their employees tells the controlling methods used by David at UTC.
Implementation of worldwide employee scholarship program, for the total academic development of UTC employees, towards maintaining and creating a benchmark for UTC, tells us the leading and developing process used by David.



4.                  Which managerial competencies does David seem to posses? Does he seem to lack any?
In this concert, George David has all the managerial competencies and proficiencies that make him highly regarded personnel of UTC. As Sandy Weill said, David has the right mix of toughness and sensitivity. It is very true that, he has toughness towards the company and sensitivity towards his people. Whatever David does, that only in favor of UTC as well as for the beneficiary to their employees and due to which, UTC employees respect him and thought him as a good manager. He doesn’t lacking anything.













CASE: 2 BOOMS AND BUST IN TELECOMMUNICATIONS
Q1. Why did the strategic plans adopted by companies like level 3, Global crossing, and 360 Network fail?
The Strategic plans adopted by companies like level 3, Global Crossing, and 360 Networks fails due to the huge capital investment by various companies in a similar sector, with cutting price rate, that too nationally and globally rushing towards the business. The strategic plans failed due to the wrong market analysis and heavy competition between similar investors in an off-beam approach.
Q2. The managers who ran these companies were smart, successful individuals, as were many of the investors who put money into their businesses. How could so many smart people have been so wrong?
Managers in this companies are very smart, talent and successful individuals; however they believed and having forethought that surging demand would create more profit and advance in creating business. For them, it was just like a rush to grab and collect gold openly without putting any high effort. The managers of these companies are very sticky and not aware of any new invention and marketing strategies, due to which they lost and failed.
Q3. What specific decision-making biases do you think were at work in this industry during the late 1990s and early 2000s?
Less structured and inflexible occurrences in these companies, specifies about non-programmed decision making conception were seen in the industries during the late 1990s and early 2000s which led to bankruptcy and saddled with massive debts.
Q4. What could the managers running these companies done differently that might have led to a different outcome?
The market analysis and decision making was very poor among the managers, which led to this condition of the companies. Other than this, the forecast given by Andrew Odlyzko of AT&T Lab was totally ignored and not even inspected or analyzed, just rushed as fired in dark without any assumption.
